At the Forum Romanum
Legal History Society, Prof. Watson acquainted the students of the
University of Belgrade Faculty of Law with the Somerset’s Case, a
famous judgment of the English Court of King's Bench in 1772 which held
that slavery was unlawful in England. The case is one of the most
significant achievements in the campaign to prohibit slavery throughout
the world. He introduced students to the case and his article,
“Lord Mansfield: Judicial Integrity or Its Lack: Somerset's
Case” (2 J. Comp. L. 227, 2006).
